The Local Government (Wales) Measure 2011 places a duty on each local authority in Wales to conduct a survey of candidates and elected councillors during each ordinary local election. This includes candidates for principal (county or county borough) councils and candidates for town and community councils. The purpose of the survey is to understand, over time, the demographic profile of election candidates, to ensure that local democratic procedures are inclusive and that councillors are representative of their communities.
